Introduction to the great restump

My First Blog..
I own a single fronted Edwardian Cottage in the inner suburbs of Melbourne. I bought it 14 years ago, just as my twin daughters were turning 3. It was advertised as "worry free for many years" but turned out to need restumping, rewiring, replumbing, reroofing etc etc. I knew it wasn't perfect but I was happy with it.
Last year I decided that it really needed all of those things done, but I didn't have the energy to do them, so I put it on the market. CRASH! (Sound of housing market 2 weeks after I made the decision) I went through with the auction but no one wants to do any work. So this year on the 16th of April, the restumping started.
They finished the job within a week and I am ecstatic with it. The house used to have a distinct lean, but now it’s straight and solid. It involved ripping up the old Baltic pine floor and laying a new one. (I went with Kempas before I knew of its reputation - should have thought that one out more but happy for now) I carpeted the bedrooms (warm and gorgeous) and levelled out the kitchen/family room (which were split by a step.)
The new roof is now finished (colourbond windspray) and I spend many a happy minute out there in my pyjamas admiring it. And the sound of rain on the roof no longer terrifies me because it no longer leaks!
And now for the kitchen …..
I’ve promised my 17 year olds that there will be no renovating next year while they are doing year 12, so I’m hoping to get the kitchen done asap.
